Habbo (o Habbo Hotel) es una de las más grandes redes sociales en internet, operada por Sulake Corporation. Habbo, enfocado a jóvenes y adolescentes, presenta salas de chat con formas de habitaciones de un hotel, renderizadas en proyección isométrica. El registro y la entrada a Habbo es totalmente gratuito, pero el acceso a servicios adicionales requieren la compra de "Habbo Créditos" con dinero real, que es la moneda dentro del Hotel. Los "Habbo Créditos" sirven para adquirir elementos extras dentro del hotel, por ejemplo el Habbo Club y la capacidad de comprar muebles, denominados "furnis". El servicio fue lanzado en el año 2000, se ha llegado a expandir a 31 países y el servicio está disponible en 20 idiomas. El crecimiento de la red es tan grande que diariamente se unen más de 75.000 usuarios nuevos, se registran 9.500.000 visitantes únicos al mes y existen más de cien millones de cuentas creadas.[cita requerida] Además, el 90% de los visitantes tiene entre 13 y 18 años. En 2008, Habbo contaba con más de 104 millones de cuentas creadas a nivel mundial, donde el hotel español y latinoamericano proporciona más de 15 millones de cuentas a la cifra total. La cantidad de usuarios conectados simultáneamente más alta de todos los hoteles se ha registrado en el de España y Latinoamérica, donde han llegado a jugar aproximadamente 58.000 usuarios al mismo tiempo. Housekeeping El "Housekeeping" es el nombre del sistema de administración del conocido juego Habbo Hotel. Sólo pueden acceder los moderadores y demás miembros del staff del Habbo Hotel. Desde él, se puede administrar desde la publicidad hasta los baneos y últimos movimientos de los habbos. Las opciones han ido cambiando durante las diferentes versiones puesto que cada nueva tenia algo que necesitaba un control. La palabra en sí es House Keeping [Administración en casa] ya para acceder a este panel debes escribir una dirección determinada y no hace falta entrar en el hotel Baneos o expulsiones Dentro del hotel hay normas que se deben cumplir para el buen desarrollo del usuario en el juego, en el caso que un habbo haya corrompido una de las normas propuestas, será expulsado o (en este caso) baneado, las expulsiones pueden variar en la duración dependiendo completamente en la gravedad del incumplimiento de una norma, la duración de un baneo puede ser tanto por 2 horas, como por 1 día, tres días y en algunos casos permanentemente. Los baneos solamente quitan el acceso al hotel, no se eliminan los furnis del habbo ni tampoco las salas, pero sí quita la suscripción o días de suscripción al Habbo Club dependiendo la cantidad de días que no se pueda acceder, como también no permite la comunicación con los amigos dentro de Habbo Hotel y todos los beneficios de un miembro activo y además, hay distintas clases de baneo, por ejemplo, el baneo permanente, por lo cual un moderador o staff del hotel baneo tu ip, por otro lado hay baneos de menor tiempo, que puede variar entre de 2 horas y meses. Placas Las placas en Habbo son recompensas que se van otorgando a los usuarios que vayan cumpliendo distintos objetivos, como por ejemplo: el volumen de tiempo que llevas conectado en Habbo Hotel. Otras insignias están dadas por los staffs por participación en los eventos que van haciendo los mismos o por unirse a un habbo grupo especial. Habbo Retro Servers Los Habbo Retro Server son clones de un chat virtual llamado Habbo Hotel que hacen las mismas funciones pero en éste caso un usuario común es el administrador del servidor. En éste orden de ideas los Retro Servers no son legales, puesto que copian archivos del juego original, que está protegido bajo los derechos de autor de la empresa propietaria (Sulake Labs). Los Habbo Retro Servers normalmente están recreados en la antigua interfaz de Habbo Hotel y se aprovecha para su simple edición. Los Habbo Retro Servers, puesto que tienen una calidad ínfima y los servidores están instalados en un ordenador, tiene varias desventajas a causa de su bajo rendimiento, y los más frecuentes son: * Más Lag: El servidor se ralentiza hasta 5 veces más que en los Hoteles originales. * Cierres frecuentes: El Habbo Retro Server siempre está abierto a la comodidad del usuario que lo haya creado y puede resultar incómodo * Límites: Sólo se pueden apilar furnis una vez y también hay un límite de usuarios conectados o registrados en el Habbo Retro Server. Hay otro tipo de Habbo Retro Server más modernizado y actualizado que se conoce popularmente como Habbo HoloCMS o Habbo Holograph. Tiene menos desventajas: es más seguro porque la mayoría tienen cifrado de contraseñas en el registro y hay menos límites de conexión o de registro porque almacenan la base de datos a través de un Archivo Web o FTP. De todos modos, también son copias ilegales y deben suprimirse si no se ha pagado ninguna licencia con Sulake.
